It's a tough time for everyone. Let's reflect on things that don't involve two old men and a presidency.
#3: Wakaba Higuchi's Triple Axel
Video surfaced of Wakaba training a 3A-3t and anyone who knows me knows I love Wakaba Higuchi. After struggling so much two years ago, this just made me so excited and so happy for her. I really hope she sees some GOLD during these next few seasons.
#2: Mikhail Kolyada (Once Again)
Minus a few wonky landings, Kolyada yet again showed his beautiful performance capacity at the Minsk Ice Star competition this week. However, that's not why he's #2. He's #2 because he finally posted a video training the 4 Lz (+3t) on instagram and...shocker...it's just as impressive as it was back in 2017/2018. The 4Lz he did at the Cup of China that season LIVES in my brain, and from the looks of this, it likely won't be long until he resurfaces it in competition. Hopefully this gets him back to the top and challenging Yuzuru and Nathan before the olympics...
#1: A Hanyu Halloween
It's not hard to imitate Yuzuru Hanyu's habits at the beginning of his performances because he always goes through the same dramatic motions- squatting down by the boards, squeezing his pooh tissue box, and then launching to the center ice. As imitations go, though, I've never laughed harder than the rendition from Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear in honor of Halloween. Lewis's impression is stunning, down to replicating Hanyu's favorite hydroblade move, and Lilah's pooh costume just sent me over the edge. God bless these two.
